How to cut no-shows at your salon, without asking for deposits

An empty chair is lost time you can't sell twice. Six simple habits that bring no-shows down, without scaring clients away with deposits.

A client who doesn't show up costs you more than one appointment. You kept the time free, maybe turned someone else away, and now the hour is gone. For a one-person studio, two or three no-shows a week add up to a real part of the month.

Deposits help, but they also put people off, especially first-time clients. Here is what works before you get there.

1. Remind them the day before

Most no-shows aren't rude, they're forgotten. A reminder the day before, with the time and the address, is the single biggest fix. Noopi sends it automatically by email and, for clients who use the app, as a push notification.

2. Make cancelling easy

It sounds backwards, but it works: when cancelling takes one tap, people cancel instead of just not coming. A cancelled visit frees the time early enough for someone else to book it. Every confirmation email carries a link to manage or cancel the booking.

3. Set a clear cancellation window

Decide until when clients can cancel themselves, for example 24 hours before, and show it on your booking page. A visible rule is taken more seriously than one you mention after the fact.

4. Approve new clients first

Regulars rarely miss appointments. First-time bookings are where most no-shows come from. Turn on approval for new clients: they send a request, you confirm with one tap, and your regulars still book straight in.

5. Fill the gaps fast

When someone cancels, share the free time in your Instagram story with your booking link. The time is bookable the moment it frees up, so the first person to tap gets it.

6. Keep an eye on repeat offenders

Mark no-shows on the visit. Your client list then shows who misses appointments, so you know who to remind in person next time.

Frequently asked questions

Does Noopi take deposits? Not yet. Payments and deposits are planned after launch. Until then, reminders, approval for chosen services and a clear cancellation policy are what keep no-shows down.

Do reminders go out by text message? No. Reminders go out by email and as a push notification in the Noopi app, the day before the visit.

Can I require approval only for some services? Yes. You can approve every booking, only new clients, or only the services you choose, such as long colour work or tattoos.
